MAY TRAINING ED

I think May is going to be a strictly training month for me. All the racing/training intensity of the last 8 weeks has posed several questions about goals and objectives. I need to sort all that out and hope to do so while training in May. I also realized post-Wintergreen that it was for me much more of a key season goal/race than I thought. Now that its over I lack a focal point. Maybe I'll make it the two remaining WV RR Series races...we'll see.

  1. Good partial work out today...got a good 10-15 min tempo ride and a couple of bookends after that. First day this week my legs have felt usable...took Mon and Tue off after a shakedown ride on Sunday following Wintergreen. May have been feeling the cumulative effect of lots of races in a pretty short period.

  2. Sir, I've gotta pick up more climbing tips from you . . . . you said that you should try to find your rhythm when climbing . . . I should talk to Gus about when he's ready to have the climbing weekend at his place in Luray . . . .

  3. Thur, Fri, Sat and Sunday

Got good work over the last 4 days...1.5 hr EM w/some hill form work in the park and Arty Ridge Thur & Fri, a 2hr hard ride 'fartlek' style Sat (some sprints, bookends, tempo and LT work randomly sprinkled in an EM ride), and a 3+ hr EM ride today with some tempo and a couple sprints thrown in for fun. Apart from the incredibly huge amount of pollen/other particulate in the air (and my eyes), these were great 'back to basics' rides for me. I had sort of felt the need to get some mileage in to support the rest of the season (tend to like to go through Sept), and I hope to continue with some higher mileage in addition to the planned intensity work throughout this month. Hopefully this will pay off in the longer (and hillier) RR's down the road.

  4. I think those kinds of rides right now are great to keep the riding fun and fresh. Prescriptive training can kill the good parts if we let it. Your coach says Go to it and Happy Birthday!

  5. Thanks Coach. See the 50+ crowd right around the corner.

    Tonight's LT's

First interval workout indoors on the trainer in awhile. Perserverence watching the Celtics pull game 5 back from the edge vs. the Magic paid off.

Decided to do 1 x 20 Tempo at low rpm (70ish) to get some MT vice the 2x10 min, then proceeded with the 4x8 min LT w/5min rest btw. Haven't downloaded the power #s but am guessing they were mediocre as these were not easy tonight. Tennessee room was like a sauna afterwards, but hey, good prep for the coming humidity (provided winter ever lets go). Ride was fortified by the late bday celebration cake and ice cream. heading back for more now. chow.

  8. Alas...busted. Couldn't resist a wintergreen shot of me not slobbering all over myself. Must have been early on.

  9. Over the weekend and Tuesday 19 May

Had some good low key rides Sat, Sun and today. Sat was a renegades challenge...some pretty spirited pulling going on and was fun. Sun the weather sucked and as much as Steve, Ken and I tried to make it out, just didn't happen. So I did a couple hours uphill grinds in front of the TV watching the BlackHawks v. Red Wings and Lakers v. Houston. Good muscle tension in climbing pos and a half hour or so of standing in biggest gear. Got a new chain, might as well start stretching it!

This evening did some nice hill and tempo fartlek around town hills and in the park. Made it hurt on the tempo part staying in 52/12 20 min in park...good on the bike wt work. Took yesterday off.
